Wacha Approves Addition to Painting!

April 9, 2017

I am so humbled Wacha found beauty in my depiction of himself and the nature around him! The original photo I used had more blue in it but the other one included an adorable element that the first one had not.

Andy Cohen Thanks Me at WWHL Clubhouse

June 20 & 24, 2015

Josh and I went down to Atlanta to see a live evening chat with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. They were both very grateful for the coasters I gave them featuring pictures of my artwork of them--they talked to me for a while! Andy even invited me up to see a live show next time I was in New York, which happened to be the following week!

I'm on Andy Cohen's Instagram

April 9, 2015
Grateful to Andy Cohen for exposing me to the world with his wonderful write-up of me and picture on his Instagram. I am so honored! You can see two of the photos I painted just a few posts before that. Also, Sarah Jessica Parker liked it!

Twitter Convo With Lisa Vanderpump

July 17, 2014

Lisa Vanderpump saw the painting of Giggy that I tweeted to her! I sent it to one of her restaurants so hopefully she got it (or maybe someone on her staff is enjoying it at home!) Now three people that we love in Gaga's "G.U.Y." video have seen (or own) my paintings of their pets. (Andy Cohen's) Wacha, (Lady Gaga's) Asia, and (Lisa's) Giggy (W.A.G.) Lisa also messaged Josh and me that Giggy was born in our hometown of Roanoke!

Mail From Andy Cohen

March 3, 2014

Andy Cohen sent me a hand-written thank-you note, for my painting of Wacha--what a great guy! It says, "Gerry & Josh - Thanks for the sweet note and beautiful painting of Wacha! Mazel! (Heart) Andy Cohen"

Gaga And Fans Like My Work

November 2013

Lady Gaga created the social media site Littlemonsters.com as a safe place for her "Little Monsters" to share their thoughts and creativity. It is always considered a great honor to have Mother Monster like or comment on anyone's artwork. Her collaboration with Robert Wilson in the Louvre inspired me to make a similar analogy with the painting I created of her and Leigh Bowery, based on a Cezanne painting of Pierrot and the Harlequin. Several Little Monsters and a few members of her exclusive "Haus of Gaga" liked and commented on my post, including the famous set designer Marla Weinhoff, who gave me an "A+". Gaga herself said it was "Fucking Amazing!"

Voted Among The Best Of The City

June 2013

Local "City Lifestyles Magazine" readers selected me and my studio/gallery "Poparazzi" for the annual "Best of the City" Awards. This was quite a surprise as I had just moved to Roanoke in 2010 and opened the gallery 2011. All the other artists and galleries listed were longtime Roanoke artists and art galleries. It was also the last year the magazine included arts categories in their awards.

My Painting Wins a National Contest

January 2013

My portrait of Anderson Cooper was the January winner of the "Anderson Live" Artwork Contest. This contest sponsored by Hewlett Packard provided me with a Spectre laptop computer and an Envy printer and listed it on Anderson Live's website.

Garbage Singer "Trashes" My Painting

May 23, 2012

Got to meet Shirley Manson and other members of the band Garbage before a show at the 9:30 club in Washington DC. She was impressed by my painting of her and said I was very talented. I offered it to her but she said she thought I should keep it--thanks, Shirley, I love it!

Another Celeb With a Painting of Mine

April 3, 2012

I painted the portrait of James St. James as part of an exhibit of paintings Lady Gaga and her influences. I included him because he was a part of the "club kid" scene in the New York City that inspired Gaga early in her career. It was one of my favorite paintings; one of the most elaborate and Old-World baroquish looking. Sent it to him because I thought he would appreciate it and he did-- saw it on his Instagram in the same spot over a year later!

Poparazzi Opens

May 2011

Opened Poparazzi Studio/Gallery as a place to exhibit my paintings of Lady Gaga and her influences. I liked the idea that people could watch me paint in the window. They would stop in and tell me who they wanted me to paint. I got all kinds of requests.

Charlottesville Gallery Show

September 3rd, 2010

My first gallery show since graduating school in 1993 ran through September at Skylight Studios in Charlottsville, VA! "Selections from the Gaganheim" coincided with Lady Gaga's "Monster Ball" at John Paul Jones Arena.

Painting on Oprah

January 15th, 2010

Was so excited to see the painting I gave Gaga in Atlanta on the Oprah Winfrey Show and more extensively on the Oprah.com website. It meant she took it along with her through the next two shows in Miami and then to her Chicago dressing room--now that's what I call dedication to "her art!"
